The Leveson Inquiry is into the culture, practice and ethics of the press. Prime Minister David Cameron set up the inquiry after the 'news of the world' admitted to intercepting voicemail messages of prominent people to find stories.
The Leveson Inquiry investigated 2 parts. First, focusing on "the culture, practices, and ethics" of the UK media. Looking at relationships between newspapers, broadcasters, social-media networks, politicians and the police as well as media regulation.
They feel that it is important to investigate the relationship between the police and the press because the media could get away with doing what they want, without being investigated. Also, the police could leak information. They also look at the relationship between the government and the media because the media could hide what's really happening.
'Freedom of the Press' is the freedom of communication and expression through vehicles including various electronic media and published materials.
